Unit Description: 33 exam rooms, 3 procedure rooms, 5 ultrasound rooms, and 1 fetal monitoring room.
Patient Populations: The Women's Clinic provides care to adult gynecologic, obstetric and infertility patients. This clinic has 13 subspecialties including general gynecology, vulvar/vaginal diseases, PMS, menopause, fibroid diagnosis and therapy, colposcopy, LLETZ therapy, laser therapy, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, invitro fertilization, general obstetrics, high risk obstetrics, prenatal genetics, fetal diagnosis and therapy and urogynecology.
Unit Information: A variety of healthcare professionals work together in this ambulatory clinic. Staff members include registered nurses, medical assistants, nursing assistants, medical doctors, advanced registered nurse practitioners, and nurse midwives. Several nurses are certified experts in the areas of genetic counseling, childbirth education, breast-feeding education, reproductive endocrinology and child car seat safety. Orientation is four to six weeks based on each new staff members' prior experience with an extended orientation to subspecialty services. Staff scheduling is based on a pattern, clinic hours of operation are Monday-Friday 08:00-1700. The IVF/Infertility Clinic offers some weekends and holidays. Staff nurses have the opportunity to document on-line. Number of patients seen daily: >200
Nurses perform fetal monitoring, intrauterine inseminations, pessary fittings, injection teaching, diabetes patient teaching, pelvic exams and pap smears, antepartum monitoring and telephone triage. Nurses also assist with intrauterine procedures, provide bereavement support and genetic counseling.
The Women's Clinic staff have identified and implemented interventions to decrease pain during endometrial biopsy and continue to monitor patient levels of discomfort during this particular procedure for ongoing improvements in care.
