The Departmental committee membership provides shared governance representation for each of the clinical nursing divisions, Clinical Outreach, the Center for Disabilities and Development, Nursing Informatics, UI Family Care Center, UI Heart and Vascular Center, UI Blood Donor Center, Ambulatory Surgery Center, Ambulatory Care Services, Emergency Treatment Center, Dialysis and the Nursing Clinical Education Center. The UI College of Nursing has an ad hoc membership seat. Representatives from other councils and committee are invited to attend meetings as needed. The membership structure assures that the functions of the committee are all encompassing and considering all aspects of nursing services. The function of the Department of Nursing Staff Development Committee are to:
- Determine, establish, and evaluate mechanisms to be used to meet identified educational needs.
- Coordinate hospital, departmental and divisional educational endeavors that affect nursing staff.
- Oversee the provision of education to nursing staff using a variety of modes, including E-learning methods.
- Identify educational needs of nursing department staff and provide feedback to the associate director of nursing education.
Each of the five clinical nursing divisions has a Staff Education Committee to implement educational issues at the divisional and unit level. Membership on the divisional committee is appointed by the Associate Director for Clinical Services for their respective division. The chairs of each of the divisional Staff Education committees are:
