The Nursing Clinical Education Center (NCEC) is a joint effort between the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing Services and Patient Care and the University of Iowa College of Nursing.
The Center is a state-of-the-art facility where teaching and learning can take place 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Students and staff use the facility to learn how to provide safe, effective and compassionate care before providing direct care to patients and families. Staff use the facility for education enrichment, competency training, and for simulation and training for patient care delivery enhancements.
About the Facility
Housed in 20,000 square feet on the fourth floor of General Hospital, the Center brings together the expertise of practicing clinicians, nurse educators, and faculty all focused on providing the very best in nursing education for all levels of learners.
Cutting-edge educational technology located in an 11-room clinical simulation lab space allows learners to experience sophisticated and complex nursing care in every specialty and clinical situation. The supportive information systems support: high fidelity patient simulation, perioperative, pediatric ICU, neonatal ICU, general pediatrics, adult medical surgical, adult critical care, and pediatric and adult ambulatory care.
The Center features an 86-seat classroom that can be divided, two additional classrooms with 34 and 36 seats each, two conference rooms, and a computer lab for additional didactic and meeting area.
A resource library and several gathering spaces for Center users allow for private study or interactive learning on a more informal basis. Offices for staff of the College of Learning Resource Services and the hospital's Nursing Clinical Education Center are also housed here.
Ultimately, by keeping abreast of clinical and technological advancements, the Center will help improve patient outcomes, reduce errors, and strengthen the nursing profession by putting knowledge into practice.
