Functions

Staff development refers to those learning activities designed to facilitate job related performance.

In this setting the Nursing Clinical Education Center is involved in the following components of Staff Development:

  • orientation
  • inservice education
  • continuing education
  • leadership development at the staff nurse and nursing management levels
  • skills training
  • simulation training
  • competency assessment
  • clinical affiliations
  • consultation/educational experiences, and
  • administrative assistance.

The Nursing Clinical Education Center supports the mission of the UI Hospitals and Clinics through collegial relationships with schools of nursing. We are especially proud of the renewed relationships with the UI College of Nursing through the work of the University of Iowa Nursing Collaboratory (UINC) and Nursing Enterprise (UINE). The NEC Associate Director of Nursing Education is the co-chair of the UINC Education Collaboratory whose mission is to advance educational initiatives in a partnership environment.
