Medical Cardiology
Unit Description: 25 inpatient, 2 outpatient infusion beds
Patient Populations: Staff on 4JCW enjoy caring for adult patients with a wide variety of cardiac issues. Patients seek treatment for unstable angina, myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure or dysrhythmias. The heart failure program gives us several unique opportunities. 4JCW is the only intermediate care unit in Iowa that cares for patients following heart transplantation or left ventricular assist device placement. We also provide a wide range of inotropic and antiarrythmic IV infusions.
Unit Information: When you join our team you can expect 5-6 weeks of unit orientation plus 1-2 weeks of classroom learning. Scheduling is a huge staff satisfier. Nurses self-schedule and work every third weekend. Staff schedule a variety of 8 or 12- hour shifts to best balance with their home life. If you are looking for a career that offers you the challenge of caring for cardiac patients 4JCW is the place for you!
Our patients receive high quality care due to the multidisciplinary approach used to plan patient care. In addition to the nursing staff, we utilize two cardiology physician teams, cardiac rehab, and a unit based pharmacist, social worker and dietician. We also utilize activities and music therapy when these services are needed. The staff work together to help people feel like an individual, not a diagnosis.
Location: 4th floor, John Colloton Pavilion
