Neuroscience Intermediate and Acute Care Unit
Neurology/Neurosurgery

Unit Description: 36 intermediate and general acute beds.

Patient Populations: 6 John Colloton (6JC) is an intermediate Medical and Surgical Inpatient Unit consisting of primarily the adult Neurology and Neurosurgical patient population. The population served includes: strokes; transient ischemic attacks (TIAs); central nervous system (CNS) autoimmune diseases; surgeries of the brain and spinal cord; and neurological traumas involving the head, brain and spinal cord.

Unit Information: 6JC is a very challenging unit where the potential exists to care for critically ill patients. Excellent skills are needed to care for this patient population. Duties and responsibilities of the RN include, but are not limited to: invasive monitoring (arterial lines, central venous pressure and intracranial pressure monitoring), medication administration, pain management, intensive neurological monitoring and assessments, detailed patient and staff education and teaching, orientation of new staff, and computer documentation. 6JC is a fast-paced, dynamic unit with state-of-the-art equipment and procedures. Registered nurses are able to work 12-hour shifts and have many opportunities to be involved in unit planning and development, including self-scheduling, staff education, unit projects and quality improvement. We welcome you to join our "Neuroscience Healing Hands" team on 6JC.

The multidisciplinary team consists of physicians, nurses, unlicensed assisted personal, social workers, nurse navigators, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, registered dietitians and pharmacists.
