Magnet Recognition Program®
Magnet Champions
The Magnet unit champions are essential to the UI Hospitals and Clinics Magnet Initiative. They are the unit experts and the "frontline troops on the Magnet march to success."
The selection criteria to be a unit champion involved the following:
- Satisfactory performance
- Excellent communication skills
- Linkage to other staff members
- A demonstrated positive image of their unit and nursing
- The ability to identify and discuss exemplar nursing examples
- Ability to participate in the Magnet site visit
The Champion role:
- Knowledge of Magnet Status
- Knowledge of the benefits and the process
- Collaborates with Manager and the Magnet Steering committee
- Presents information to the unit staff
- Discusses the benefits with staff at the unit level
- Facilitates bulletin boards, story boards, posters showcasing nursing excellence on their units.
