Adult Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program
Unit Description: 14 beds (all private)
Patient Population: Adult blood and marrow transplant, autologous; allogenic, non-myeloablative (related and unrelated), and Acute Leukemia.
- Average daily census of 11 patients
- Administer induction and consolidation chemotherapy for the acute leukemia population
- Administer high dose chemotherapy and stem cells/marrow infusion for the transplant patients
- Administer multiple IV medications, blood transfusions, provide extensive teaching, and form a strong rapport with our patients
- Provide supportive treatment for the post transplant complications (fevers, infections, graft versus host disease)
Unit Information: We are a FACT accredited transplant program.
Orientation: Generally 10-12 weeks long, provided with a preceptor. Hematology and oncology experience are beneficial. Unit offers continued learning experiences and opportunities to be involved in research activities.
Goal is to maintain a positive work environment. We are able to provide the best patient care in a supportive/positive environment.
We have a scheduling committee, staff do self scheduling. Majority of staff work 12 hour shifts, day/night rotating.
