Orthopaedic Clinic
Unit Description: 35 exam rooms, 1 procedure room, 5-bed plaster room
Patient Populations: Multi-specialty clinic that evaluates and treats all ages of patients who present with either general orthopaedic conditions or who require care in sub-specialty clinics, such as trauma, hand, foot, tumor, scoliosis, neck, club foot, total joint, or sports.
The department also houses the Iowa Spine Research and Rehabilitation Center which provides evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation services for patients with back injuries or pain.
Unit Information:
- Clinic is ranked in the top ten orthopaedic departments in the U.S., according to US News and World Report
- Clinic provides extended-visit hours. Nursing varies work hours to accommodate clinic hours
- RN certification available
Nurses in the clinic and Spine Center provide comprehensive patient education, including group teaching for pre-op total joint patients. An RN, who serves as a patient care coordinator, staffs each of the sub-specialty clinics. RNs and MAs assume responsibility for cast removal and application. Three RNs have received special training to staff a nurse-run foot care clinic.
