Lisa Gerard, RN, UI Pediatric Specialty Clinics, received the 2003 Excellence in Clinical Practice Award from the National Society of Pediatric Nurses.
This award recognizes a staff nurse who has made a significant contribution to the care of children and their families. Gerard specializes in the care of children with urology problems and is a staunch advocate of practices that minimize a child's pain and distress during medical procedures.
Recently, Gerard led a team to conduct a study showing the positive effects of lidocaine jelly used as a lubricant for urethral catheterization. That study will be shared as a research poster presentation at the National Society of Pediatric Nurses annual meeting. The manuscript has been submitted to the Journal of Urology for publication. Gerard will receive her award at the annual meeting this April.
