Gamma Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Honor Society of Nursing received several awards at the 38th Biennial Convention in Indianpolis, Indiana. Lou Ann Montgomery, PhD, RN, BC, Associate Director, Nursing Education, UI Hospitals and Clinics department of Nursing Services and Patient Care, is president of the local Gamma Chapter.

Gamma Chapter earned its second consecutive Chapter Key award in recognition of chapter excellence. The Chapter Key Award was first presented during the 1991-1992 biennium. Chapters receiving this award must show achievement and leadership in several vital areas including: membership recruitment and retention, leadership and professional development and chapter outreach (publicity and programming). A Chapter Key Award signifies overall chapter excellence.

Gamma Chapter received recognition for its 75th anniversary. Only three of the chapters in STTI have reached this milestone.

Marita G. Titler, PhD, is the 2005 recipient of the Elizabeth McWilliams Miller Award - Excellence in Research. The Elizabeth McWilliams Miller Award recognizes Sigma Theta Tau members who conduct distinguished research, communicate their findings and have an established record of scholarly writings and nursing research activity.

On Wednesday, November 16, 2005, Gamma Chapter president, Lou Ann Montgomery, and News Editor, Grace Matthews, accepted the Special Edition Newsletter Excellence award for the Gamma Chapter. The Special Edition newsletter was written in 2004 to celebrate Gamma Chapters' 75th anniversary. The newsletter can be seen in the Gamma Chapter website.

The Gamma chapter also received the Best Chapter website award.
