Be More Active

Making seemingly minor adjustments to increase your physical mobility can have a big impact on your weight loss efforts. Try incorporating some of these suggestions into your regular routine:

  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator, or get off one floor earlier and walk the last flight.
  • Get off the bus one stop earlier and walk the rest of the way.
  • Do household chores you normally have others do, like dusting, vacuuming, weeding, etc.
  • Walk or run with the dog and/or the kids.
  • Watch TV while using an exercise machine like a treadmill or stationary bike.
  • Plan "active" vacations, like hiking, bike-riding, or walking tours.
  • Make time to do “walking errands,” like trips to the post office, corner mart, dry cleaners, etc.
  • Limit “sitting activities” like surfing the Internet, watching TV and playing video games to less than two hours per day.
