Undergraduate
Students interested in physical therapy can major in many science-related fields—exercise science, biology, physics, chemistry, athletic training. The University of Iowa Graduate Program in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science can provide information on other applicable undergraduate studies as well as admission qualifications in its programs. Graduate
The UI Department of Rehabilitation Therapies serves as a clinical education site for several physical therapy schools across the country, including the UI graduate program in physical therapy and rehabilitation science. The UI Hospitals and Clinics is a tertiary health care center. Rotations are available in the acute hospital setting or the outpatient clinic, which also includes UI Sports Medicine and pulmonary rehabilitation.
Students interested in performing clinical education rotations at UI Hospitals and Clinics should contact their academic coordinators of clinical education or the clinical coordinators in the UI Department of Rehabilitation Therapies at 319-356-2663.
Volunteers
The Rehabilitation Therapies Clinic accepts volunteer students interested in gaining clinical experience while completing undergraduate degrees. Student volunteers benefit from observation and participation in the clinical treatment setting.
Student volunteers also benefit from the department's education mission by actively questioning, discussing, and applying their class work information in the clinic. Interested students should contact UI Hospitals and Clinics Volunteer Services.
