Program Goals


The Therapeutic Recreation program provides services to children, adolescents, adults, and the geriatric population. Programming is provided through both individual sessions and group activities.

Goals of the program include:

  • Educate patients in skills and resources to enhance stress management and contribute to personal growth
  • Reduce anxiety, stress, and other effects of hospitalization through a spectrum of goal-directed activities
  • Enable patients to meet challenges and overcome barriers in order to reinforce self-esteem
  • Provide emotional support to patients and their family members
  • Assist patients with adaptation of coping skills based on their cognitive, affective physical and psychosocial needs
  • Afford patients opportunities for creative expression and other forms of communication
  • Offer choices, giving patients more control over their environment
  • Assist patients in planning for discharge needs
