Mood Disorders


This program works with individuals with mood or emotional management problems, including individuals diagnosed with affective disorders or personality disorders (e.g., major depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, etc.) often in the context of acute life stressors. Patients meet Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Groups led by a certified therapeutic recreation specialist include:

Stress management to help patients:

  • Develop healthy ways to cope with stress and anxiety
  • Develop and improve relaxation techniques
  • Explore and develop self-nurturing and self-soothing skills as a way to decrease stress and anxiety and to increase relaxation

Self-awareness to help patients:

  • Develop and improve self-esteem
  • Develop self-nurturing skills
  • Identify thoughts and feeling
  • Increase assertive communication skills
  • Explore a variety of personal and leisure resource to utilize to structure free time and to utilize for self-nurturing and or stress management

Health and wellness helps patients:

  • To increase level of energy and motivation
  • To identify to benefits of exercise and activity
  • To participate in healthy forms of exercise
  • To Develop and encourage teamwork and cooperation
  • To self-regulate

Community integration offers patients to:

  • Exposure to community resources
  • Opportunities to practice coping skills and problem solving techniques
