Psychiatric Partial Hospitalization Program, an alternative to inpatient care, provides intensive psychiatric services in an outpatient setting. The Partial Hospitalization Program is a short-term treatment program that offers services five days a week (Monday-Friday) with staff available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Some individuals enter the program directly and others transition from an inpatient stay.
Recreation therapists play an integral role in the multi-disciplinary treatment team that includes physicians, psychiatrists, nursing services, social services, dietitians, occupational therapists and education services.
The therapists offer a variety of activities and groups based on the individual's treatment plan. Each patient participates in at least one 45-minute group session per day. Groups use a discussion-based format: baking/cooking, community integration, crafts, exercise, games, guided imagery, progress muscle relaxation, stretching, weight training, etc., as cognitive behavior therapy and emotion management approach.
