Recreation therapy treatment services are delivered by qualified professionals with training and education in recreational service delivery and professionally certified by the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).

The professional certification designation is Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). The credentials requires a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution of higher education in the area of Therapeutic Recreation, an approved internship under the supervision of a CTRS, and a passing score on the national test provided by the Educational Testing Service.

The staff plans and implements a therapeutic recreation program that forms an integral part of the patients' overall treatment program. The therapeutic recreation specialists play a significant role in the multi-disciplinary team on each unit, which involves physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, nursing staff, social services, physical therapists, and pharmacists.
