Transport of Patients for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Carbon monoxide (CO) patients should be transferred on 100 percent oxygen via mask or ET tube. Unconscious patients should be intubated and hyperventilation helps reduce cerebral edema. EKG monitoring is necessary.

If you suspect CO poisoning, have questions or would like to refer a patient, call 319-356-8220 or call UI Hospitals and Clinics information at 319-356-1616 and ask for the hyperbaric physician.
