Health Care is extremely dynamic and is influenced by changes in patient characteristics and needs, technology, lifestyle, popular belief, social and Health policy, national and local economies, cost, competition, and regulation. Over time, all of these factors, through unique variations and interactions, affect the practice of social work in health care settings. Undoubtedly, we will continue to see major changes in technology for diagnosis and treatment. This will have an impact on the quality and duration of life, which in turn will affect care needs and the method of providing services. There will be tremendous successes, commonplace occurrences, and humbling failures.
Regardless of the health care changes forthcoming, it is safe to assume:
- Competition will be even greater,
- Cost Reduction will be emphasized even more,
- Quality of Care will be Better,
- We will all feel as though we are doing more with less, and
- Accommodating change and managing change will be absolutely necessary to thrive in the future.
