Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

What is WIC?
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) provides nutrition information, healthy foods and referrals for other services. The purpose is to help keep women, and their children under five, healthy and strong.

WIC may be able to help if you

  • Live in Iowa
  • Are pregnant, or have a child under 5 years of age
  • Have a nutritional need, and
  • Have a household income that is less than or equal to the income guidelines below.

Income guidelines
Many people who have jobs are eligible for WIC.

If you earn less than the guideline amounts, or receive FIP, Food Stamps, or Medicaid, your family is income-eligible.

You will need to make an appointment to find out if you or other family members are eligible. Mothers, fathers, guardians, or foster parents may apply for their children.

WIC staff will

  • Do a health screening
  • Check your diet and review your health history to see if you are eligible.
