Extended ClinicalPastoral Education (CPE) is often used as continuing education in spiritual care or as an orientation to spiritual care. The program is designed as continuing education for clergy serving local parishes and qualified laypersons.
Extended Clinical Pastoral Education is one day a week, usually Mondays, but not always, from September through May.
The "CPE Day" consists of six hours of semmant time. An addition requirement is
serving as a chaplain intern in the hospital, which may include a day, evening and over night.
It also includes a one night-per-week clinical assignment.
