Located on the banks of the Iowa River, 230 miles west of Chicago on Interstate 80, 116 miles east of Des Moines, and 270 miles northwest of St. Louis, Iowa City is a good place to live. With a population of 60,000, because of the University, it can boast of the cultural advantages of a much larger city without the population density:
- Music and theater by UI groups and national and international performances are scheduled throughout the year.
- Sports events are in abundance from the UI Hawkeye athletic program
- Outdoor recreation is available at nearby Lake Mcbride and numerous state and county parks.
Iowa City is easily accessible by airlines serving the Eastern Iowa Airport, midway between Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. As a university town, Iowa City provides an excellent public transportation system.
