Two-year Residency Our two-year Clinical Pastoral Educatino (CPE) residency is specifically designed for people who plan to go into hospital ministry. The foci of the first year are on the skills necessary to provid spiritual care and the traits necessary to function as a professional on a multidisciplinary treatment team. The curriculum is designed to help the resident meet the outcomes for Levels I and II of the Standards of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education. Meeting an advancement consultation during the resident's third unit of CPE is required prior to formal movement into Level II CPE. |

Year two is a in-depth study in a focused area of specialization. Residents work a medical area in which they want to gain an expertise. In addition to their CPE supervisor, the Second-year Residents will have a physician and nurse adjunct supervisors to facilitate their learning in the area of specialization. The main focus of the second year is to understand the course of the disease process and the corresponding spiritual responses in order to provide focused spiritual care that is integrated into medical treatment. A clinical project related to the area of specialization is a core part of the second year curriculum. Initiating the process for certification as a chaplain in the Association for Professional Chaplains occurs in the second year.
The Residency begins the first week of September each year and concludes the last Friday in August of the second year. Residents completing the residency will receive credit for eight units of CPE. Only applicants interested in completing the full two-year program will be considered.
