Speech, language, and communication evaluation
The speech/language/communication evaluation consists of both formal and informal tasks which will help determine the childs communication skills. Articulation skills are evaluated from a functional approach while verbally interacting with the child. Language structure skills are evaluated with both formal and informal tasks. What and how the child communicates with others are also very important components of the evaluation. A report after the evaluation will include recommended activities for improving the childs skills in a variety of areas.
Educational evaluation
Education consultants have an extensive background in teaching, behavior management, and social/emotional skill development of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders. Our consultants communicate with, and provide technical support to, staff members of preschool and school-based programs for young people. Technical assistance, in-service training, on-site consultations, and on on-going monitoring are available through special arrangement. Limited follow-up is provided routinely.
The educational consultants are involved with pre-referral information gathering, including telephone contact with school personnel when indicated, gathering and scoring behavioral ratings and observational resources, reviewing records and written school reports, and when needed, reviewing IEPs. They are involved in the clinic evaluation process primarily in assessments of developmental, academic readiness, basic academic skills, and other aspects of school adjustment. When answering referral questions and addressing important concerns about school and larger educational issues, the consultants evaluation will incorporate existing information with current assessments. The consultants are also involved with post-evaluation follow-up through written reports and telephone follow-up as needed and as time allows. Special arrangements are possible for attendance at staffings, on-site consultation, and other support.
