Relationship Difficulties
These may include problems that arise in marriages, families, and in relational groups that have not been formalized in marriage. Common difficulties include: communication problems, conflictual relationships, marital separation, infidelity, physical or verbal abuse, problems involving parents and children, as well as difficulties arising after remarriage and/or the blending of families.

  • Adult Psychiatry offers evaluation, consultation and treatment for patients with relationship difficulties. During the initial evaluation or consultation, individual recommendations for treatment are discussed. This treatment may be provided in the Adult Psychiatry Clinic or in our downtown location at Plaza Centre One. Adult Psychiatry Services include medication management, psychological testing, individual therapy, and group therapy. Call 319-353-6314 or 877-384-8999.
  • Partial Hospital Programs. The Partial Hospitalization Mood Disorder Program is an alternative to inpatient care for adult patients. Intensive psychiatric services are provided in an outpatient setting. Some people enter the program directly from the community. For others it is a transition from an inpatient stay. The short-term treatment program offers services at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, five-days-a-week with staff available between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The mood disorder track utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy approach to treatment.   • Child and Adolescent Psychiatry offers evaluation, consultation and treatment for patients with relationship difficulties. During the initial evaluation or consultation, individual recommendations for treatment are discussed. This treatment may be provided in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinic or in our downtown location at Plaza Centre One. Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Services include medication management, educational consultation/testing, psychological testing, individual therapy, and family counseling.   • Pediatric Psychology provides behavioral analysis and treatment as well as emotional assessment and treatment of parent-child difficulties. Call 888-573-5437 or 319-356-2434.
