The Child Protection Program staff provide educational services
to various medical groups within the University of Iowa Hospitals and
Clinics and as well as to community groups.
Resmiye Oral, MD, is a contracted trainer for the Child Protection Training Academy
of Iowa, which is the agency providing training for social workers with
the Department of Human Services throughout the State of Iowa.
Dr. Oral provides training to the Department of Human Services social
workers at three different levels: introductory, intermediate, and advanced
levels. She also provides training to child care providers locally and
is the major instructor for the prevention and recognition of child
abuse
and neglect for medical students, pediatric residents, surgical residents,
and other residency programs at UI Hospitals and Clinics. She also is
invited as a lecturer to numerous conferences held by physicians, nurses,
and physicians assistants across Iowa.
Dr. Oral is also engaged in child abuse training activities abroad.
She has established educational courses within university settings for
medical
professionals and social workers in Turkey. The Child Protection Program
is in the process of establishing three-month, on-site, hands-on training
courses for professionals from Turkey as well as establishing an elective
rotation in child abuse and neglect for medical students and residents
at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.
The Child Protection Program also has prepared preventive / educational
brochures to inform children and families of indicators and significance
of various forms of child abuse and neglect. These forms are distributed
to families on each encounter.
