  • A contribution from the John and Mary Kenyon Family that honors the memory of Will Kenyon, more babies in Iowa received the benefits of donor human milk.
  • A grant (2006) from the UI Year of Public Engagement, babies already on donor human milk at UI continued to receive its benefits when transferred to other Iowa hospitals.
  • Mary Saye, there is a Milk Collection Depot in Burlington.
  • A grant (end 2009) from the Children’s Miracle Network, more babies at UI Children’s Hospital received the benefits of donor human milk.
  • Contributions (2003) from the Concrete Classic Softball Tournament, more babies at UI Children’s Hospital received the benefits of donor human milk.
  • A contribution (2003) from the Quaker Oats Company, more babies at UI Children’s Hospital received the benefits of donor human milk.
  • Grants (2002) from Children’s Miracle Network, UI Hospitals and Clinics Volunteer Services, Des Moines Register and the Gannet Foundation and the Foundation for Iowa Jaycee Charities, the Mother’s Milk Bank of Iowa was established.

How Can You Help?

  1. Become a Milk Donor

  2. Help spread the word
    • Tell family, neighbors, friends, colleagues about the milk bank
    • Ask us to send you a removable bumper sticker
    • Display milk bank posters
    • Display milk bank brochures

  3. Establish a Milk Collection Depot in your community
    • Urgently needed across Iowa to enhance donor milk delivery
    • Are instrumental for increasing donor participation and donation
    • Can be located in hospitals, businesses, organizations, churches, homes, etc.
    • Five to seven cubic feet or larger freezer provided by the milk bank
    • Freezer must be in a secure area
    • Receive and store donor human milk until milk bank staff retrieve it

  4. Be an innovator when there is absence of mother's own milk
    • Advocate for donor human milk. Parents: If mother’s own milk is not quite enough, request donor human milk supplementation. Health care professionals: Recommend donor human milk when mother’s own needs supplementation
    • For Iowa hospitals, have an inventory of donor human milk available for babies in need

  5. Donate online through the UI Foundation
    • Make a difference in the lives of vulnerable citizens. Feed a baby:
      • $14 gifts 100 ml of donor human milk
      • $28 gifts 200 ml of donor human milk
      • $42 gifts 300 ml of donor human milk
