Mother's Milk Bank

What's New

The mission of the Mother's Milk Bank has expanded to make pasteurized donor human milk available across Iowa to hospitalized premature and term infants and also to infants born with immunological defects, to infants whose mother experiences insufficient milk supply, adopted infants and infants whose mothers have illnesses requiring temporary cessation of breast feeding.

A milk donor drive is ongoing so that the milk bank can maintain a sufficient supply of milk to accommodate the expanded mission. Milk donors are urgently needed.

Call 877-891-5347 for information on how to order donor milk or to become a milk donor.

The University of Iowa Blue Cross/Blue Shield policies cover donor milk effective 1 January 2005.

In March, 2006 the Mother's Milk Bank became a service within the Deparment of Food and Nutrition Services.

The Mother's Milk Bank will host the annual Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA) meeting on October 6-8, 2006 in Iowa City.
