Prescription Renewals


During your visit with your UI Family Care provider, please bring a copy of all medications you are currently taking. We will review your medications with you and highlight those that need to be renewed.

Refills
A refill of your medication can be handled by your pharmacy without contacting your health care provider. The label on your medication will indicate the number of refills left of your prescription. Simply call your pharmacy to have the medication refilled.

For your convenience, you can also refill prescriptions online. Please note, online refills can only be picked up at the General Hospital Pharmacy or Pomerantz Ambulatory Care Pharmacy, located at UI Hospitals and Clinics.

Renewals
A renewal is needed when your medication indicates that you have no remaining refills on your current prescription. To prevent missed doses, please call your UI Family Care clinic and ask for a renewal as soon as your current prescription runs out. Three business days are required to complete your prescription renewal.

To request a prescription renewal, call your UI Family Care clinic. You will be asked to leave the following information:

  • Name (please spell your last name)
  • Date of birth
  • Name of medication
  • Name, location, and telephone number (with area code) of the pharmacy you would like to fill the prescription.
  • A telephone number (with area code) where you can be reached Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with any questions.

Unless there are questions about your request, you will not be contacted by UI Family Care. After three days, please call your pharmacy to verify that your prescription is ready.
