Arrhythmia
An arrhythmia, or change in the regular beat of the heart, is a normal occurrence for the vast majority of people. But sometimes, arrhythmias are associated with heart disease and pose a great risk. UI Heart and Vascular Center’s board–certified specialists diagnose and treat heart rhythm problems with medications, devices such as pacemakers, or surgery.
Our team uses imaging technology to create a three–dimensional electrical map of the heart. Once we are able to pinpoint the causes of rhythm disturbances, we can offer treatments available nowhere else in Iowa. These include bi-ventricular pacemakers and Stereotaxis ®, a technology that uses high powered magnets to precisely guide instruments to the source of trouble in a beating heart.
If you experience a skipping or irregular heart beat, a fluttering of the chest, a fast or slow heart beat, or feel dizzy or faint, it could be a heart rhythm disturbance. Talk to your doctor about any questions or concerns you might have. If you do have an arrhythmia, consider the advanced testing and treatments available on the leading edge of health care at UI Heart and Vascular Center.
