Pre-procedure Requirements for the Echocardiography Laboratory
Dobutamine Stress Echocardiography
- Hold beta blockers for 24 hours prior to stress test
- Eat a light breakfast or lunch prior to appointment time
Exercise Stress Test
- Wear comfortable shoes for walking
- Women should wear or bring slacks or shorts
Transesophageal Echocardiography
Outpatients:
- Nothing to eat or drink for six hours prior to test (medication may be taken with small amount of water)
- You must be accompanied by a driver since you will be sedated
Inpatients:
- Nothing to eat or drink six hours prior to test, this includes tube feedings.
- Either able to sign consent themselves or have a person authorized to consent for them available.
