Operating Room Quality Improvement Teams


Goals: To reduce OR case time, reduce costs, model teamwork, and improve satisfaction. The teams will meet weekly for a few weeks and come up with suggestions for changes. The changes that are measurable will be tracked and data shared throughout the OR
  • Review instruments, trays and packs, supplies, suture, etc. that are used by various surgeons doing the same procedure. Look for any opportunities to reduce variations.
  • Review current times for anesthesia prep, turnover, surgical time, etc. and set goals for what those times should be for this procedure.
  • Review process of care and identify steps that are currently being done in sequence that could be done concurrently. There are some OR teams that have cut hours off of case duration just by thinking of things that could be done at the same time rather than waiting for one team member to be finished with all tasks before starting the next set of activities.
  • Creative thoughts are welcome and will be received openly.
