Become involved in your community!
Make your life a full one by spending time each week at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with our patients and their families. Help others and feel useful!
The services provided by the volunteers complement the skills of our professional staff by helping to make our patients' lives more pleasant and comfortable.
Free parking is available while you volunteer.
More than 1,300 volunteers work in more than 125 volunteer positions in areas throughout the hospital. Positions vary within departments and may involve direct patient contact or non-patient contact dependent upon your interests.
Deliver a flower, feed a patient, cuddle a baby, make a friend for life. Volunteers are an important part of the health care team at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics!
Consider some of the things our volunteers do daily.
Volunteer Testimonials
Becoming a community volunteer is easy...
The first step is to attend a 90-minute orientation session. At the orientation we will explain the application process, which involves:
Completing an application form.
Participating in a simple health screening (similar to the process our staff members go through for patient contact) and signing a background check consent form. The screening and check are performed at no cost to you.
Interviewing with a Volunteer Services staff member.
Volunteering 10 hours in the Volunteer Services Office to gain exposure to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and learn about our program.
Selecting a placement location, where you will interview with the volunteer supervisor for a position in that department.
