Required Fire Safety Training Scheduled May 19-23

Spring "hands on" fire safety training will be held Monday - Friday, May 19-23, 2003

Sessions will be held every 30 minutes, from 7:30 to 10:30 each morning and 1 to 3:30 each afternoon. There will be an early session beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday, May 20.

Our UIHC Safety & Security staff, with the assistance and cooperation of the Iowa City Fire Department firefighters, will provide the training.

Location: The training site will be in the recessed area between Pappajohn Pavilion and the Field House. To reach the Hands-On Fire Safety Training area, go out the south doors of JPP and take the sidewalk around to the left.

Each staff member will have an opportunity to become familiar with and actually operate the various types of extinguishers found throughout the University Hospitals and Clinics. Also, Iowa City firefighters will assist staff in handling a fire hose under conditions as close as possible to those one might encounter if a fire does occur within the facility.

Sign in procedure: Attendance will be taken after youÕve completed the training. Staff must bring their photo ID to be scanned. Documentation will be compiled by Hospital Human Resources and Information Systems to assist in staff receiving credit for attendance at this training required by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

"Hands-On" training is held twice a year. Please have your staff attend one of these fire safety training sessions if they did not attend in August. A list of who did and who did not attend in the fall will be distributed to your departmental safety education administrative liaison prior to hands-on training.
