INFORMM Course Descriptions
Add/Update OPPG Training
This class will instruct perioperative nurses to generate the Operative Procedure Preparatory Guide for the cases scheduled in the OR. The attendees will learn how to: revise the usual equipment list, identify any special needs to be obtained by perioperative nursing, and send Central Sterilizing a list of additions and deletions to the case chart. (1.25 hours)
Bulk Nourishment
Participants will learn to use the Add/Update Bulk Nourishment Order and the Update Bulk Nourishment Custom List functions. They will practice entering and updating orders for bulk nourishment items, as well as creating standing orders and order templates. The custom list function is used to create and maintain, for each area, a customized list of bulk nourishment items which aids in making the ordering process more efficient. (.50 hour)
Care Plan
This program is designed to orient the nursing department staff to the Nursing Patient Care Plan on-line application and to the off-line procedures associated with these transactions. "Hands-on" exercises designed to provide exposure to a major portion of these transactions make up this program. (3 hours)
Care Plan / Online Documentation
The user will learn how to add, update, and discontinue patient care orders and groups of orders. Nursing Assistants will also learn how to enter patient results on-line as charting entries for orders and summary notes, how to make corrections in charting for displays in various formats, and how to print chart forms and reports containing charted data. (2 hours)
Diet Exchange
The on-line functions used to add, update, and display diet plans for renal, diabetic, and renal diabetic diets are explained during the presentation. The user will learn to: 1) Add or update a diet plan for a patient with a Renal (PRO/K/NA) Restrict, Renal Diabetic, or Diabetic diet type; 2) Use the Add/Update Diet Plan function to select a pre-set standard diet plan; 3) Make individual adjustments to a standard diet plan; 4) Save the patient's diet plan as Temporary, Permanent (allowing updates to the current permanent plan), or Permanent (allowing a new permanent plan to be added); 5) Use the Display Diet Plans (Historical) function to view permanent diet plans from previous inpatient stays; 6) Use the Display Current Diet Plan function to display daily totals for the patient; 7) Print the current diet plan for a patient which contains exchange details and calculated nutritional values. (.50 hour)
Diet Order Entry
This program is designed to orient staff to the Diet Order Entry System and to the off-line procedures accompanying the system. An initial presentation is followed by "hands-on" exercises designed to provide the user with exposure to the Diet Order Entry functions. (1.5 hours)
Discharge Referral Form
In this class, the RN is introduced to the Discharge Referral Form. The participants learn to generate a referral form which provides nursing instructions/information to an outside agency or facility. A demonstration presents the important aspects of the Discharge Referral Functions. The "hands-on" case study exercises give the RN an opportunity to build and print a Discharge Referral Form. (2 hours)
HRM/STAF Training
(Human Resource Management/Staff Time & Attendance Facilitator Program)
Personnel will learn how to record staff time (i.e., hours worked pay status, benefit hours) and make adjustments, as needed, before confirming the staff hours for verification. After a brief presentation, participants will practice recording staff time and making pertinent adjustments before confirming staff hours for verification. After completion of these training exercises, participants will sign on to the production system. Within the User Profile and Update Selection Methods, they will add the Staff Selection Methods of Number/Name and Section. (2.5 hours)
INFORMM Patient Record
Participants will learn to use the application to perform the following functions: Medications - used to keep a medication profile on each patient; Allergy/Adverse Reactions - used to record the patient’s allergies and reactions; Immunizations - used to record immunization history, record documentation of immunization administration, and produce chart forms; Flowsheet - used to enter patient data (e.g. vitals, height, weight, etc.); Narrative Note - used to document any nursing instructions given to the patient, the reason for the visit, and/or patient concerns (2 hours)
INFORMM Security Officer Training
This program is designed to orient Security Officers of the INFORMM System to the on-line functions associated with the creation, update, retrieval and deletion of the INFORMM user ID's. This is accomplished through a review of respective reports and service request forms as well as "hands-on" exercises relating to the afore mentioned functions. (2 hours)
Introduction to INFORMM
This program is designed to orient the "new" user to the computer hardware and the software applications. INFORMM Security issues are also discussed. The participants complete guided "hands-on" exercises to familiarize themselves with the INFORMM System. (1.5 hours)
Medical Record Tracking
This class provides hospital staff with "hands-on" training of the Medical Record Tracking System. Exercises require the participants to associate, request, and update the location of the Medical Record. (1.5 - 2 hours)
On-line Documentation
The attendees will see an overview of the three areas of the On- Line Documentation System: 1) Working with orders (care planning, charting, correcting) - Chart orders; Complete Quick Chart notes; Sign charting; Add Summary Note; Correct charted note; Correct Summary Note; 2) Displaying charted data (these will be more important for retrieval because the data is not printed) - Display Intake and Output Profile; Display Charted Notes by Order; Display Charted Notes by Time; Display Summary Notes; 3) Print transactions - Print Patient Record Forms; Print Care Plan Data Set; Print Patient Data Report 24 hr; Print All Patient Data Reports. (2 hours)
OR Scheduling
The presentation includes a description of all the perioperative nursing functions created in the first phase of the OR Scheduling System project. The following are explained in detail: Display Surgery Schedule; Update Surgery Schedule; Add-On a Surgical Procedure; Cancel a Surgical Procedure; Log Patient In/Out Times. The RNs and Unit Clerks will learn to update the final schedule to add on patients, to move patients both in a room and between rooms, and to change the start time, duration or estimated end time of a procedure. They will also practice canceling procedures, updating patient information, and entering patient in and out times. Finally, the participant will learn to use the various display functions to look up information on the finalized or preliminary surgery schedules. (2 hours)
Physical Therapy Report
This program will teach users how to add the basic data for a physical therapy referral. They will also learn how to use the functions of the Report System to enter the Physical Therapy Initial Evaluation, Progress Note, and Discharge Note. Finally the participants will learn how to use on-line functions to generate charges for the physical therapy procedures and equipment. (2 hours)
Release of Information - Business Office Report
The on-line functions used to record a consent and request for the release of information are explained during the presentation. The user will learn how to record a patient's consent for the release of information, how to identify the requesting entity, and how to log the events related to releasing information. Specifically, class participants will learn how to: record a request for the medical record; update initial information that was requested; update a request to identify that the medical record has been sent to or is back from the copy room; add an event to indicate the specific information that was sent to the requester; add events to indicate that a request for information was received and that a cover letter was requested to send to the appropriate department/physician with the disability form/attending physician's statement; add a release of information entity; update a request to identify that information regarding a patient requires special consent; add an event to request a cover letter to be sent to the requesting entity with the requested information. Information will also be presented on recording the following events: requesting financial activity; revoking a consent; deleting a consent; canceling a request for information; terminating a request; referring a request; and requesting a completed consent. (1.5 hours)
Release of Information
The presentation includes an explanation of the on-line functions used to record a consent and request for the release of information. The user will learn how to record a patient consent for the release of information, how to identify the requesting entity and how to log the various activities related to releasing information that have been completed. Finally the user will learn to display and check all recorded information for accuracy. (1.5 hours)
