Providing exceptional care in a family environment
Jeanette Gent, R.N.
I knew when I was little that I wanted to be a
nurse. My dolls were my patients.
I began working at UI Hospitals
and Clinics in 1974, in inpatient nursing. Recently, I changed to
outpatient nursing in the Holden Comprehensive
Cancer Center. You see a lot of different things you probably wouldn’t
see in a smaller, local, or private hospital.
It feels so good in your
heart to see people come back, people who are in remission, and have
done well. Then, there are the days when
things aren’t so good and you’re sad, because you’ve
gotten to know somebody who is not doing so well. But here, it’s
kind of like you have your own little family. And, whenever our nurse
manager hires somebody new, it seems like the person just fits right
in, like a new member of your family.
