CO Hazard
Specialists with University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics say residents of homes and rental properties should take precautions to reduce their risk for illness and death from carbon monoxide poisoning, especially during the winter heating season.
Kid Captain
Austin Hills, 16, of West Branch, Iowa, will serve as the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital Kid Captain during the Hawkeyes’ football game on Saturday with Ohio State. When he was 8 years old, Austin was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare cancer usually only seen in very young children. To save his life, doctors removed his right eye, and he required further treatment for cancer.
Burn Prevention
Specialists at UI Hospitals and Clinics say a working smoke detector cuts in half the risk of dying in a residential fire.
Prematurity Awareness
Specialists with UI Children’s Hospital say premature birth is the leading cause of death among newborns and a major cause of serious health problems in children. November is Prematurity Awareness Month.
Foot Ulcer Study
University of Iowa Health Care researchers are enrolling adults age 18 or older with diabetes and an open sore on a foot in a research study that will help determine if diabetic foot ulcers that may not appear infected can lead to infection-related complications.
