Periods and Menopause
Researchers in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics report that shorter intervals between periods for a woman may be a sign that she is in the early stages of menopause.
Blood Donations
The DeGowin Blood Center at UI Hospitals and Clinics reports that blood and platelet donors demonstrated great generosity and commitment during the devastating flooding in eastern Iowa. The center now needs donations to continue in order to help patients during the upcoming holiday weekend.
Blood Screening
Hemochromatosis is the most common genetic disorder in whites. The disorder causes excess absorption of dietary iron and can lead to heart disease, liver problems, early menopause and premature death. July is Hemochromatosis Screening Awareness Month.
Cord Blood
Specialists with University of Iowa Children’s Hospital can assist parents who want to discuss options for banking blood from their newborn’s umbilical cords.
TENS Study
Researchers with University of Iowa Health Care are enrolling healthy adults ages 30 to 95 in a clinical trial examining the effects of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) on pain. TENS applies low intensity (non-painful) electrical stimulation to the skin.
