University of Iowa Children's Hospital
University of Iowa Children's Hospital, located within the walls of University
of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, is dedicated to meeting the health
care needs of children and their families. Staff members provide care
across a full spectrum - from health promotion and well-child care to
the crisis of traumatic injury and life-threatening illness, birth
defects, chronic illness, and developmental disabilities.
A nationally recognized pediatric center of excellence, University of Iowa Children's Hospital serves children and their families from throughout
Iowa, the United States, and other nations. It provides comprehensive
health care for children from birth to young adulthood through its
many outpatient clinics, surgical treatment and diagnostic centers,
and more than 175 inpatient beds. Each year, more than 90,000 clinic
visits and some 7,000 inpatient admissions are recorded. In addition,
numerous pediatric outreach and satellite clinics, including the
Mobile and Regional Child Health Specialty Clinics, provide primary
and specialty care for children in communities throughout Iowa. As a
"hospital within a hospital," University of Iowa Children's Hospital benefits

At University of Iowa Children's Hospital about 150 physicians and surgeons
with special expertise and certification in the care of children
provide medical and surgical care. These specialists include
board-certified physicians in otolaryngology - head and neck surgery,
orthopaedics, ophthalmology, and many other specialties in addition
to pediatrics. More than 400 specially trained nurses provide care to
children at University of Iowa Children's Hospital. Other staff members, such as
Child Life specialists, social workers, dietitians, respiratory
therapists, pharmacists, and physical therapists are also part of the
caregiving team.
