Department of Anesthesia: Transplant Anesthesia

The UI Hospitals and Clinics has an active organ transplantation program, performing approximately 45 liver, 25 heart, 15 lung, and 120 kidney transplants per year for pediatric and adult patients. The Department of Anesthesia plays an integral role in the perioperative management of these patients that includes preoperative consultations and integrated case management meetings, intraoperative anesthetic management, and postoperative care in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
