Psychological Services

Services offered in the adult area include psychological testing, individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, behavior therapy, cognitive therapy, and stress management.

In addition to direct patient care, psychologists provide consultation regarding patient management or treatment by medical students during their psychiatric rotation, psychiatric residents, or members of the psychiatry staff. These contacts may continue as ongoing supervision by the psychologist. In addition to informal contacts, the Psychological Services teaches courses on:

• Brief Psychotherapy
• Cognitive Therapy
• Group Psychotherapy
• Human Sexuality
• Psychological Testing
• Sexual Dysfunction

Psychologists are responsible for conducting individual and group psychotherapy on the inpatient units as well as supervision and training of nurses, nursing assistants, and residents in cognitive therapy. Psychologists are also involved in the outpatient Depression, Anxiety and Eating Disorder subspecialty clinics.

Psychological Services works directly with the Child Psychiatry division. Psychological Services is engaged primarily in psychological assessment of children and adolescents. There are also services for psychological interventions with adolescents and children. Additionally, there is a training component in Child Psychiatry primarily in the use of psychological testing.

Psychotherapy Center

The Psychotherapy Center, managed by a doctoral level clinical psychologist, is administered through the outpatient clinic. A wide variety of clinicians, including, clinical psychologists, advanced registered nurse practitioners and licensed social workers provide individual and group psychotherapy.
