University of Iowa Health Care Today is a health information radio program produced by UI Hospitals and Clinics in collaboration with KXIC-AM Radio 800 in Iowa City, Iowa. The show airs Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at approximately 7:30 a.m. and 9:50 a.m.

August 2006

DISC Study
In the 1990s, researchers studied the diet of girls to see if their fat intake affected their sex hormones. Now researchers would like to contact those same study participants to take part in another, separate study.

Golf Invitational
The Iowa Fire Sprinkler Contractors Association is hosting the first annual Burn Center Golf Invitational to benefit University of Iowa Burn Treatment Center Summer Camp for Pediatric Burn Survivors and community education for the prevention of burns

Heart Failure Study
People with congestive heart failure who feel down or depressed because of their condition are invited to participate in a study.

Immunization Awareness
Immunizations are one of the most valuable and one of the most cost-effective public health interventions we have.

Golf to Your Advantage
The program goal is to improve your golf performance and fitness and avoid those nagging injuries.

Tinnitus Study
The purpose of the study is to compare three different ways of using background sound and counseling in individuals with tinnitus.

Simulated Heart Failure
Heart Fx Pod offers the opportunity to experience what having heart failure feels like.

Physician Shortage
The shortage of psychiatrists is a national trend, not just a local one; and it happens to be particularly bad in Iowa.

Bladder Control
Parents and teachers can provide additional support to minimize the stress or embarrassment of a wetting accident

Cataract Awareness
What causes a cataract? The cells of the lens rapidly turn over, and unlike the skin where old cells are lost into the air, there’s no place for the lens cells to go except to the middle of the lens. Over time this leads to a loss of clearness to the lens, and that’s what a cataract is.

Breastfeeding
Human milk is the gold standard, and it contains anti-infective properties, immune properties that help protect the infant from infections and other problems during early life and benefits that carry through the rest of the life of the child.

Sports Medicine
Do you have a child involved in sports and wonder what you need to know to prepare for them for their next season? University of Iowa Sports Medicine can help.

Dental Awareness
Dental awareness is about more than a pretty smile. Gum disease may increase your risk of serious health problems, such as heart attack or stroke.
