Regional Wal-Mart and Sam's Club associates held a ribbon-cutting ceremony recently for the new University of Iowa Children's Hospital Family Suite in the Helen K. Rossi Volunteer Guest House at UI Hospitals and Clinics.

Regional Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores raised more than $1 million to build the family suite that will provide lodging for families with children hospitalized in University of Iowa Children's Hospital, primarily those in the neonatal and pediatric intensive care units.

The new family suite area is located on the 4th level of General Hospital (Elevator C), in University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The area offers a kitchenette with refrigerator and microwave, quiet lounge area with internet access, and laundry facilities.

The 16 new rooms, including one handicapped-accessible room, feature:

  • Two full-sized beds (cribs are available upon request)
  • Private bath
  • Desk
  • Private phone with voice mail capabilities

University of Iowa Children's Hospital is the state's longest-serving children's hospital. More than 130,000 children receive care at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital and its statewide network of outreach clinics each year.
