Specialists to Offer Free
"Preparing for Baseball" Seminar


The University of Iowa Sports Medicine experts who take care of the Hawkeye baseball and softball teams and serve as consultants for the Cedar Rapids Kernels are pleased to present, "Preparing for Baseball: Learn to Throw the Right Way." The free seminar will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. April 12 in the Larson Conference Room, UI Sports Medicine Center, UI Hospitals and Clinics.

Designed for baseball coaches, parents, and players, this seminar offers a question and answer session and will cover:

  • Injuries to watch for at different field positions
  • When kids can start throwing curve balls
  • What is a safe, age-appropriate pitch count
  • Throwing mechanics
  • What to look for to detect injuries early
  • Common elbow and shoulder injuries

Presenters: George Phillips, M.D., pediatrician; John Albright, M.D., orthopaedic surgeon; and Brian Wolf, M.D., orthopaedic surgeon.
