Departments of Otolaryngology and
Radiation Oncology to Host Cancer Screening


Providers from the Departments of Otolaryngology--Head and Neck Surgery and Radiation Oncology will host a free head and neck cancer screening in conjunction with Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The screening will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, April 15, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, 200 Hawkins Dr., 21200 PFP. Appointments are required. Call 319-356-4351 for an appointment or for more information.

The free screening is part of the Yul Brynner Foundation Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness week, this year being held April 11-17.

Risk factors for head and neck cancer include:

  • Smoking
  • Chewing tobacco
  • Consuming alcohol
  • Prior cancer of the region of the head and neck

Symptoms of head and neck cancer may include:

  • Sore in the mouth that doesn't go away
  • Sore in throat or trouble swallowing
  • Change in voice
  • Growth or swelling in the neck
