Community Program To Focus

"Aging in Iowa: A Discussion About Growing Older" will be the focus of the next Health For Your Lifetime program 6:30 p.m., Thursday, May 19, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Rick Dobyns, M.D., M.P.H., and Paul Mulhausen, M.D., UI Hospitals and Clinics physicians and experts on the topic of aging, will present this free, community program in the hospital's East Room. By the end of this decade, there will be more Americans over 55 than under 18 for the first time in history. Over the past century, our life expectancy has increased 30 years, adding an entirely new stage of life. That means we will spend a full third of our lives "old." Focusing on photos from the award-winning "Aging in America" exhibit on display at UI Hospitals and Clinics, the doctors will discuss some of the unprecedented opportunities, and the prolonged decline, that have become the dueling signatures of "old age." With audience interaction, this presentation is geared toward all ages and will include discussion of:
