Children and families across central Iowa will benefit from the efforts of the STAR 102.5 KSTZ morning team of Big Ken and Colleen during their radiothon May 25-27 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily from its live location in University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. The broadcast from the Atrium Lobby will be aired inside the hospital on TV channel 5.
The Des Moines based station has hosted the radiothon for five years. Come meet Big Ken and Colleen. Be part of Big Ken and Colleen's Kids!
Big Ken and Colleen will share the stories of patients and families cared for at University of Iowa Children's Hospital. Donations from listeners will be given to the Children's Miracle Network to help support patients and their families at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital within UI Hospitals and Clinics. Last year, supporters pledged more than $205,000 to "Ken and Colleen's Kids" during the marathon broadcast.
Children's Miracle Network is the nation's largest charitable organization. One hundred percent of the funds raised through this and other Children's Miracle Network events are used to support the work of affiliated children's hospitals. Donations are used to enhance the quality of patients' hospital stays, support research and to purchase the sophisticated pediatric health care equipment necessary to care for critically ill and injured children.
University of Iowa Children's Hospital at UI Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City is the state's longest-serving children's hospital. More than 100,000 children receive care at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital and its statewide network of outreach clinics each year.

Aiming for a Cure Organizers Present $60,000 Check
Organizers of Aiming For a Cure presented a check for $60,000 to University of Iowa Children's Hospital. Children's Miracle Network staff accepted the gift at the entrance to the University of Iowa Children's Hospital Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. The funds are the proceeds of the second annual Aiming For a Cure event held March 18-20, 2005, at the Highland Hideaway Hunt Club near Riverside, Iowa. The event also included a raffle and auction at the Sheraton Hotel in Iowa City. The proceeds will support research, patient care and families of children receiving treatment for cancer in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at University of Iowa Children's Hospital.
Steve Ries, father of bone marrow transplant patient Ben Ries of Center Point, Iowa, organized Aiming For a Cure to support the hospital's bone marrow transplant program through an activity he and his son enjoy-hunting with dogs.
The first Aiming For A Cure event in 2004 paired celebrities with pheasant hunters and raised more than $30,000 for the pediatric bone marrow transplant service. The mission of the Aiming For A Cure Foundation is to benefit the pediatric hematology/oncology programs at University of Iowa Children's Hospital.
The Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit is located on the third level of the John Colloton Pavilion. For more information, contact Lisa Baum at 319-335-8484.
