The DeGowin Blood Center at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is urging area residents to donate blood or platelets in the days immediately before and after the July 4th holiday.
The supply of available blood products often runs low during long holiday weekends so donors are needed to ensure that the hospital's blood supply is adequately stocked to meet patient need.
All donors will receive a free 'Iowa Blood Donor' t-shirt when they give blood anytime before August 31, 2005.
Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be free of cold and flu symptoms for at least five days prior to donation.
The DeGowin Blood Center is located in room C250 GH on the second level of UI Hospitals and Clinics. The blood center offers free parking to donors who park in hospital ramps #1, #2, or #3, and will also provide free passes to donors who take advantage of the hospital's valet parking services.
Daytime, evening, and weekend appointments are available. Please call 319-356-2058 to schedule your donation.
