University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics faculty and staff continued to set records in many areas of service to Iowans in 2005. The record of service for FY 2005 (July 2004 through June 2005) shows UI Hospitals and Clinics admitted 50,924 patients during the year, including 1,659 newborns, compared to 50,324 patients and 1,545 births, respectively, in FY2004. Clinic visits to UI Hospitals and Clinics, UI Community Medical Service locations and UI Health Care outreach sites totaled 851,220, down from 853,468 the year before. "Our faculty and staff continue to provide excellent service to people across Iowa, the nation and from around the world," said Donna Katen-Bahensky, director and chief executive officer of UI Hospitals and Clinics. "In 2005, we recruited some outstanding clinical leaders who have brought great expertise and we are currently recruiting others. I am confident that 2006 will bring even more impressive accomplishments." Surgeons at Iowa's only academic medical center performed 20,820 major surgical operations, compared to 20,644 a year ago. That figure includes 340 organ and tissue transplants. Specialists also performed 75,979 minor surgeries, an increase of 6,743 cases over the previous fiscal year. Other major developments include:
The Emergency Treatment Center and Level I Trauma Center reported 32,768 visits from patients in FY2005, compared to 31,626 visits in FY2004. |
