Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
The eight-week program helps people learn to use their own internal resources to change their relationship to stress or chronic conditions such as pain or illness. Some of the reasons people come to the group include job or family stress, headaches, high blood pressure, anxiety, sleep disturbance, mild or situational depression, cancer, etc. Mindfulness meditation is the core of the program. Evidence indicates that participants often experience a reduction in physical and psychological symptoms, a greater ability to respond skillfully to challenges in their lives and a greater sense of well-being. Two mindfulness-based stress reduction programs will be offered:
Call 319-384-5089 to register for the required informational/screening session. This session helps prospective participants to learn about the Mindfulness Program as well as to ask questions. There is no fee required to attend the informational/screening session, nor is there an obligation to sign up. If you choose to participate in the program, you will be asked to register and pay the $380 fee at the end of the screening session. Payment can be made with cash, check or credit card. All groups will meet at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program has been offered at UI Hospitals and Clinics since 1996. It is sponsored by the Department of Psychiatry and UI Behavioral Health. |
