Free Vascular Screening to Check for
Non-cardiac Vascular Disease

The Division of Vascular Surgery at UI Hospitals and Clinics is hosting a free American Vascular Association comprehensive screening during the afternoons and evenings of May 18 and 19 to scan for non-cardiac vascular disease. While this is a free screening, advance registration is necessary because the number of people we can accept is limited. Contact UI Health Access at 384-8442 or 800-777-8442 to register.

The screening will be held in Surgery Specialty Clinics, 1400 John Colloton Pavilion-first level across from Elevator F. You should not consume anything by mouth, including water, six hours prior to the screening.

The screening is beneficial for people 55 years old or older with a history of smoking. The screening will take about one hour and include:

  • A carotid ultrasound to check blood flow in the neck
  • An aortic ultrasound to detect an enlarged aorta, the main artery in the heart
  • An ankle/brachial index that measures blood pressure in the upper arms and ankles
  • A physician consultation to review your results
